Spedo Not Working 200 1989

I am a new Volvo convert. I have a 1989 240 DL and I love it. It has a few things that need to be fixup, but mostly the spedo does not work. I relpaced the speed sensor in the rearend and that did nothing. I thought ir may be the spedo itself so I changed it out for one I know works that helped alittle. When I drive it will jump around and the go dead. I'm thinking that is a wiring problem or maby a grounding issue. Is there a way to test the wiring? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Spedo Not Working 200 1989

Hello and welcome,

The problem is common, there is a small gear in the drive unit behind the spedometer itself. The gears will chip off with age. It will take about an hour to get the instrment pod out but it's a simple, straightforward job. The drive gear itself is inexpensive and easily found at your local brick store.

Happy Bricking!!!
