wheel question?? 200 1992

Hi there -

This may be a silly question -- but I am not sure what this part is called. I have a 1992 240 wagon. I bought an old set of silver rings for the outpart of the wheels and the silver 2 piece hub caps...I went to put them on the other morning and noticed something a little different on the front wheels vs. the back.

In the center of the wheels -- inside of the five lugnuts...the front wheels have a round cover (for lack of a better term) that looks like it screws in. The back does not have this piece and looks like the end of an open pipe....The 2 piece hubcaps fit on the front wheels because they hold onto that round pipe cover. What is this piece called? and can I get them anywhere? Or do I need to go to a dealer?

I hope someone understands what I am talking about.
Thank you for your help.

The center "hub cap" just clips onto the hubs of the axle. The fronts are a no brainer and should snap right over the hubs unless you have ABS. I'm not sure of these ones. The rears should clip onto the center part of the axle that protrudes through the wheel. I only own the older 240's so I'm not sure about the newer ones, but I think the rears should be the same. I'm not sure what clips are on your wheels are. Some newer 240's have ABS and you may not be able to use the small diameter hub caps at all. The outer Trim Rings should fit without a problem as long as they aren't over 2 1/2" wide. You may want to just use the trim rings only and just paint the wheels silver. Add some chrome lug nuts and it will look sporty. I did this on my 240 wagon before I matched up a set of 4 hubcaps for it.

The "pipe caps" are the grease caps for the front wheel bearings.

FWIW, all Volvo caps are held on by clipping onto the rim center lip. The later steel wheels varied a bit from the earlier designs, and caps may not be interchangable amongst some of those variations.
