1989 ecu 240 dl ecu failure 200

I have an 1989 240 dl that has a failing ecu. It works intermittently causing car to stall . On the board of the ecu there is visible evidience of burning near a chalky grey component that looks like a resistor. There is a number do207 next to it. The computer part number is bosch 0280 000 561. I have heard that these computers are garbage and can be replaced with a computer from an 90-93 with bosch numbers that end in 951. Is this true? And is it likely that there is a secondary problem causing ecu damage/failure?
Thanks in advance mike w

The LH injection controller that you reference is one of the models known to fail.

Someone posted that this LH modle is not rebuildable, that is incorrect. We can rebuild this module for you. To see more about the topic, there is a prior post made on this topic the the URL below:

Good luck,

PS: is you replace the module with a used one, it is also likely to fail in the future because one of the major causes of failure is module age based.

Yes, they interchange. If there are burned componants on your ecu, it's non rebuildable core ( junk ) so look for a good 951.
Make sure to check the wires in your harness to make sure you don't have any shorts, wouldn't want to fry a good ecu.

Yup, 0 280 000 951 and it is purely the 561 that is at fault when they fail. I assume you have diagnosed your stalling correctly although the usual failure mode is a no ground for fuel pumps, a no start. Could you have a weak AMM or other problem?

The vehicle has a no start condition presentely. I guess that i was a little confusing. If it is the amm can I just unplug it it to eliminate that that possibility?

My experience with the failure of the 561 ECU in one of my 89's was that the car would start and run when a jumper wire was placed from fuse 4 to fuse 6 (this runs both pumps). BUT be sure the fuelpump relay in the car is a good one because jumping from 4 to 6 is also a way to chase a bad relay. Jumpering 4 to 6 provides a ground that is missing if the ECU is bad but it is also a way to simply bypass a bad fuel injection relay: either fault will be corrected by this jumper so eliminate the possiblity of a bad relay first by using a known good one.

Yes you can unplug the AMM with the keys out of the ignition, else you will fry your AMM. it should start up and run like crap then.
