I Created an Electrical Mess..... 200

After visiting daveshan's website, I was inspired to remove the cigarette lighter in my dash, to make room for electric window switches in the future. That went great (thanks, Dave)but then I got a little aggressive and removed the seatbelt warning (everything was OK) and then removed the seat heater switches, seat warmers and wiring for the seatbelt warning system that terminate at the seatbelts. I live in southern California and don't need the seat warmers, the seatbelt warning system is not needed.

I followed wiring back to their respective harneses, but now none of my instrument panel lights work. I'm hopeful that it's something simple, maybe a ground wire?

Any pointers are much appreciated......

Stormie,
Check fuse #16, this also has your right tail lights on it. The ground connection for the instruments is on a screw on the transmission tunnel drivers side (US) by the gear shift lever. It also grounds the horn, seat belt light, flasher relay, tailgate wiper (wagons) and the steering column.
Good luck.

Thanks, Dave

I replaced fuse #16 and had maintained the ground next to the tranny shifter as you mentioned. However, I cut the red/white wire that terminated at the center console seat belt light. My homemade "juice indicator" showed the wire to be hot when the parking lamps were on. I spliced this red/white into the brown wire which connects to the red/white for the auto tranny shift lighting and all is right with the world......

It's amazing how a good nights sleep will compress repair times...

Muchas gracias,

Stormie
