960 Coolant Fan Failure/purchase advice 900

Hi everybody,
Looking to buy a 960, and just got the service records from the dealer who serviced the car the last few years. One of the notes says "Client states coolant fan overheated amd stopped working" and the response was "Diagnose and replace engine coolant fan".
Since that was done, the car has not been driven but a few hundred miles.
My question is this: is this " the engine overheated, will lead to eventual other serious problems, so thus walk away from deal scenario" that I've read about here, and in the 7/9 FAQ ?
Or, is this a more minor event not to worry about?
Please advise.

I assume this is the main cooling fan which is electric on the 960, no connection to water pump. Mine had the front bearing fail and the fan then stopped and burned with lots of smoke until a wire inside burned off. I'm surprised the fuse didn't let go but it didn't.

The replacement fan from Volvo had a MUCH LARGER front bearing so I expect it to last the life of the car now.

My engine never overheated so I would just confirm the part number for the replaced item is indeed the electric cooling fan and continue your evaluation.

By the 'coolant fan' I'm presuming you mean the water pump?
If this failed and the engine overheated, then it's a complete gamble as to what may have happened. You might be lucky and it's all OK, or it might mean a new head gasket and head skim.
Personally I'd walk away from it. There's plenty out there without any problems. Why buy a potential disaster?
I know for sure that there's a Black 960GLE for sale not 10 miles from here at a Volvo Dealers. They sold it new, and have also serviced it from new and it looks absolutely immaculate. The owner has now bought a new Volvo from the same dealer, and that's why it's on sale. It's for sale at £495.00 sterling which at today's prices is about 843 Dollars. Best I've ever seen at the price.

No mention of water pump in the records, nor of full engine overheating. Would issues (such as head gasket) be visually apparent? I had a mechanic --with a fair bit of volvo exp-- look the car over and he said it checked out fine. I think he might have been a bit casual, and I wish I had had the records for him to look over.
[Wish it were $843 dollars...at that price I wouldn't worry.]
