Other Harnesses? 200

So I broke down and had the engine harness replaced, thinking that the bare wires with flaking insulation near and around the windshild washer pumps would be replaced. They were not. I have looked on various parts websites and have not seen harnesses other than engine or tailgate (replaced those too). I have an 83 DL wagon. Can these wires be replaced? Or should I just tape the heck out of them?

All the wires anywhere can be replaced. Some are more specialized than others.

The ones supplying the W/W pumps are easy. Get some wire from your local auto parts house, sometimes named "primary wire", that is about the same diameter. I use 14 gauge for most things, as it is better to be too thick than too thin, and the amount sold is usually far more than I need.

The wires for that pump are black to ground and Blue-yellow from the switch. You probably won't find the blue-yellow, use yellow or blue.

You can cut off the existing wire ends and splice in the new wire, using butt connectors and a crimping tool. It's an easy job, except for tight quarters and access.

The pump will come off the reservoir, be sure that you plug the hose so all the fluid doesn't run out and make a mess.

    Good Luck,

    Bob
