Intermittent Wiper Relay 200

The intermittent feature on my wipers hasn't worked since I got the car, and I thought i'd swap out the relay to see if it is the source of the problem. I was curious where the relay is located? Does it have any defining features (color, # of pins, model #, etc.) that would let me know if I have pulled the right one?

Thanks for your help....

Others are correct of course, I just want to add a couple things.
I have two relays under that black metal protective cover above my left foot. The larger one wrapped in foil is the one you're looking for.
The relay tends to get wet in that location in my experience. Wet foot from rain or snow resting about it tends to soak the relay = broken relay. Instead of sticking mine back in there I simply tucked it up under the dash. Wherever the wiring reaches and you have room is fine.

Bread can be sliced? Clever indeed.

If it is just like mine it is real simple. I have an 1983. Remove driver side molding and door jam. Remove kick panel/fuse cover then pull carpet down and you will see a metal piece where your foot would rest on. This piece has 2 screws in it. Remove those and the metal piece and you will find the relay. Mine was yellow yet the one I replaced it with from the junk yard was black with foam wrapping around it. Job took about 30 min.

Without knowing what 200 Volvo yu have, here's a guess, taken from the Wiring Diagram book for 1987-88 240 Volvo Service Manual.

The relay is - or should be - located in the wiring "spaghetti bowl" that is above the driver's left toe. You need to remove the felt knee pad and maybe pull down the carpet and perhaps even the metal wire channel piece.

It has six pins. All have a wire connected. Wires shown are: White... White/black...Yellow...Blue-Yellow...Red...Black.

When the relay is engaged, it periodically supplies power out of the terminal with the white wire. You might get a voltmeter in the connector to check that. The relay gets power in via the blue-yellow wire, check that one too, for voltage constantly when the stalk switch is in the intermittent position.

Please note that Volvo changes wiring color codes sometimes. If your Volvo is not a 1987 or 1988 the colors may not be the same.

Good Luck,

Bob
