Fuel pump relay ?? 700 1989

I have been noticing lately that all the warning lights don't come on when I turn the key all the time. the beast is then hard to start- like this am @ -18 I suspect the fuel pump relay as I have seen it mentioned here before but the big question is which relay is it ?? my Chilton's simply mentions "the relay" and is it interchangeable with other relays ? I have a pile from a pick a part thanks

The Brickboard FAQs explain where to find your relays, including a diagram.

You can resolder your fuel pump relay and restore it to new -- or preempt a future problem. Resolder your radio suppression and OD relays, too.

Using old, un-resoldered relays is asking for problems. Buying new relays is fine ($$), but you might pay for parts that you don't need.

$0, no risk, 15 minutes, clean 'n easy job. If it helps nothing, you're out nothing.

Thanks HOw I missed it on the faq I'll never know - resoldered it and it seems top notch- I assume the radio relay is the one on the coolant overflow tank ?

"...the radio relay is the one on the coolant overflow tank?"

Yep. You should see two identical relays up there. One is the "radio suppression relay" and the other is for the electric fan. They are identical and can be interchanged in a pinch.

By the way, the "radio suppression relay" actually controls the power to the injectors. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the radio. It is so named because the placement of the relay and wiring (underhood instead og under dash) suppresses electrical interference from the radio.

The RSR is sealed with a tiny bead of sealant (probably RTV) around the seam where the cover fits. You must cut the goop with an Exacto knife before you can pop the cover. When finished, reseal with RTV.
