Wheels 140-160

Will newer 108mm 17" Volvo wheels fit on a '73 144?

I have Nissan 200SX rims with 205x55x16 GT radials, 8" across. Fits perfect make sure panhard bushes are good, spacers are illegal in Australia and for good reason they can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Regards Jack McIntyre.

Yes the wheels will bolt on, but the offset is incorect for use on the early rear wheel drive cars. I have seen wheel spacers on Ebay for this aplication but I thought they were kinda expensive. I think the ones I saw were like 350$. I was thinking of this too for my 145.

IIRC, the offset's fairly close for 140s, 43mm for FWD vs 40mm.

You are correct about the offset, Jim. But wheel fit is about two things, offset AND backspacing. Stock 140 wheels are 4.5". Using the same offset but going to a 7" rim width puts the rear face of the rim way too far back in the wheelwell.

That is true about the back spacing and offset. I think the 140 with a 15X7 needs something like a 25-27 offset. I think all the front and all wheel drive volvos use something like 35mm

We test fitted some 850 wheels on a 142 a couple years ago: they bolted right on without spacers.

True they will bolt on but don't you think they sat in too far?

I guess it depends on how you define "too far." The guy that put them on his car ran them for a couple years; then sold the car and wheels separately.

If you look in the 140 pic section there is a picpure of my 145 with 17x 7 1/2 on it. I had a little problem with rubbing but I think if the car was not so low and had a little stiffer spring it would be O.K. It hase stock soft springs in the front know.

An aquaintance has 16 or 17" Volvo "comet" wheels on a 67 144S, and they fit perfectly. I can email photos.

I have 16x 6.5" with 43mm offest on my 142, and they fit fine. A patch pannel to fix rust repair rubs on the inside of one tire (205/55 16's).
