16 valve 740 converted to 8 valve 700

I have put a 8 valve engine into what use to be a 16 valve 740. I had to change the wiring loom. Now I have no spark no fire. The engine turns round, but won't fire up. Any suggestions?

    Put a 16v engine in?

But seriously, check that your flywheel/flexplate is positioned correctly and that you have all the connections good at your reference (crank position) sensor and power stage, etc...

You might even check and make sure you get a code 1-1-1 in the diagnostic mode for both ECUs Then I'd proceed to the higher level diagnostic mode (modes 2 and 3 as described in the FAQ) and make sure you're getting feedback to and from the ECUs

thanks for your help. I didn't change the ECU's round. I got this 740 given to me but the block was cracked. It was much cheaper to buy a broken down earlier 740 with 8 valve engine. So I did and am putting that 8 valve into the 16 valve. I have the ECU unit from the 8 valve will try and change it and see what happens.
      Thanks again

I would still think that a 8v would run on a 16v's ECU... the fuel maps might not be anywhere near correct, but it should at least start...

too bad for having to buy another car for the 8v engine.... there's a yard not too far from here with a good 16v in it...
