P0442 Code? S90-V90 1998

I have a P0442 code on my '98 S90: it says it is EVAP emission control sytem, system leak (small)

Can anyone explain this in english?

I am only semi-mechanically inclined....

    P0442 Code? S90-V90 1998

    Did you fill the car with gas while the engine was running?

    This will sometimes cause this code if the OBDII system happens to perform the evap check at that time.

    If this is the case. It will eventuially reset itself the next time it runs an evap test and all is well.

    P0442 Code? S90-V90 1998

    The evap system draws gas vapors originating in the gas tank from the charcoal canister located somewhere at the front of the engine compartment (not sure exactly where). It burns the vapor by feeding into the throttle body. This happens shortly after you start the engine and is controlled by the computer. It has detected a small leak somewhere on the system. (It can also detect a large leak and throw a different code. All this to keep the greeny weinees happy.

    Check all the rubber hoses that may be connected to this system for leaks.
