replacing the oil line going into the turbo 200 1981

OK, here's another one. The oil line to the turbo has a crack near the upper flange, In order to remove it, Do I have to remove that oil sensor-looking thing that is mounted to the block directly above it, or can I work around it, and what is it? will I need to order another gasket when I replace it?
The haynes manual devotes about ten pages to the engine and doesn't even have a picture of the right side.
Thanks ,
casey

Oh by the way, the engine is a 1981 b21 f in a 240

replacing the oil line going into the turbo 200 1981

Casey,
It's been a while since I replaced the oil feed line on my son's 83 244Ti but you shouldn't have to remove (much)more than the line. I pulled the heat shield off the exhaust manifold ... but I was having a heck of a time weaving the block end of the line back into place around various plumbing features on the block. Turns out the water/coolant return line ... the orange metal tube running along the block and to the back of the water pump ... had been bent in too close to the block to allow proper clearance for the oil supply line. Once I bent it back to it's proper position the line went into place very easily. It's possible you may still have to remove the heat shield. I didn't have a problem leaving the oil pressure sender in place. As I recall I removed the intake and output hoses on the Turbo as well. You should have two new crush washers for the banjo end (block) and a new gasket for the flange atop the Turbo. As I recall the proper size copper crush washers were a bit hard to locate. Don't over torque the fasteners ... just tight enough not to leak ... over stressing the block end banjo can crack the pipe joint.
Hope this helps.
