Leaky alloy rim

I have a slow leak (about 8-10 psi per week) in one of the rims on my 940. I'm pretty sure its the rim because this is the second tire I've had on this rim and both have leaked. Doesn't appear bent - not even any curb rash on this one - so maybe there is some porosity to the casting? Would an aerosol tire sealant work for this? I've never used the stuff, but wondering what the Board thinks on this?

I have the same problem with a Hydra rim. When I have time it gets some epoxy glue (JB Weld), but there is great merit to the paint recommendations from other respondants.

Lots of old alloys leak at the bead. The problem seems to mainly be corrosion at the bead. Polishing the rim with the tire dismounted seems to be the only fix. I'm presently having this trouble with an 88 "Corona" 240GL wheel, (they're terrible for it) and one of my 240 "Virgo" 15" wheels has started doing it too. Best thing is a polishing wheel on a drill but either hand sanding or wire brushing can produce acceptable results.
    Good luck.

Avoid using the slimy stuff, Us guys that change tires dislike it quite a bit for a number of reasons. Have had excellent results with dismounting tire, scrubbing inside of rim 'till spotless. Then coat with an epoxy spray paint in your choice of color. Contrasting colors assure full coverage, nobody gonna see it anyway, I used chrome yellow the last time. Has worked well. Now if I get used alloy rims for personal use I coat them all before ever mounting tires. Any leaks I have ever had since I started doing this has never been the rim. Valve stem holes have been a small PITA also. Before you paint remove valve stem. Started doing this coating deal 20 years ago when MB had a bad run of alloys. After using a "special coating" made just for this problem a couple of times, we decided that good old appliance paint was the same stuff that the snake oil guy were trying to sell at 4 times the cost. Cure paint as long as possible before tire remount. Hope this helps, later, rcs

The most practical thing to do is to dismount the tire and paint the inside of the rim.

Appreciate the great response to my post.

Always enjoy painting stuff, so this will be a winter project while the alloy rims and summer tires are off the car. Re. corrosion - the guy who mounts the 15" alloy rims on my 240 car (as you probabl know, there are very few people you want to trust these rims with) first mounts them on the balancing machine without a tire and grinds any bead corrosion off. Never had any problem with these. Tires on the 940 were done at a different gargage where they're not as careful.
