Check Engine Light w/o codes?? S90-V90 1998

Hello All!

I have a 1998 S90 that has recently had the Check Engine light come on. I scanned it with an Actron (?) OBDII scanner and it showed no faults.

I reset it, and two days later it's back! (Again - no codes!)

Any sugestions?

Is this a "dealer only" diagnosis, or what?

Check Engine Light w/o codes?? S90-V90 1998

EncoRick,

I assume the car is operating fine? No noticeable problems?

Inexpensive OBDII readers do not recognize Codes set by the TCM (Transmission Control Mondule) even though it tells the ECM to light the MIL.

I found this out on our 98 S90 when the PNP set the MIL but no codes were present when checked by a consumer OBDII reader.

You will need to take it to a good shop that has an expensive OBDII reader that is set up to read ALL the codes set.

Code confusion S90-V90 1998

I recently had the classic case of flashing W/E/arrow lights with check engine light on. Auto Zone (for free) read and cleared the code. They use an Actron hand held unit that sells for $150.00
The code was PO705 which says that I have a failing PNP switch.

I am thinking of buying laptop OBD2 software. Do you know of a product that reads the non engine or emission related codes?
