Motor/tranny mount clearance 200

Hey guys, this one has me pulling my hair ooout. New mounts for engine and A/T installed. Tight, no loose bolts or fasteners. Clean between mount and frame, no oily crude or grit.
Now when I drive it the exhaust and A/T strike the under frame of car when ever I suddenly change RPM's or hit a bump. Have removed, replaced and adjusted the entire exhaust systems numerous times, removed and reinstalled the mounts, compared to my other V-cars, but not able to ascertain the problem. Why is the A/T hitting the frame underside of the car. I assume my exhaust clearence problems are prevelant due to the A/T's lack of clearance between the frame tunnel and the top of the A/T. One would think that I have to wrong A/T and Motor mounts, but Nick assured me they are the correct ones. (also note, he would be glad to exchange if I doubt the application. SO no beating up on Nick)

When I un bolt the exhaust manifold to exhaust header pipe, the exhaust system falls into proper height alignment. It seems as if the engine is tilted to the left, and/or the tranny is to high on the rear mount. Appears as if it should be a simple fix, but this Norskie brain has yet to find it. Never encountered this before, new problem to me. Lay the whip to me, any ideas?

"It seems as if the engine is tilted to the left"
Does the left engine mount look overly compressed?
Is there any posibility the rear axcel is out of position do to bad bushings or something and pushing on the trans via the driveshaft? The center mount would be affected too.
I'm really reaching!

no, the rear and front bushings were replaced last year. Center bearing is not being pushed to either side. Fan has normal clearance in shroud.

On some models with AW70 there were aluminum spacer plates between the trans cross member and the frame. They were about 1/4" thick and probably used do to the extra length of the trans.

installed, one on each side.

So if the trans was lower, the pipes would line up OK, right? Review the trans mount installation, especially the cross member and any insulator bushings.

Just a thought.

Good Luck,

Bob

It is installed like all my other cars, and every one I have ever seen. Besides reversing the mount would turn the angle down and have the teeth digging into the cross-member.
