The results are in, it's new evap time. So I went to the dealer and bought a new evap and today, in the really hot and humid weather, I took out the glove box, air bag and knee bolster. It's ready to go for the repair. I did all the heavy lifting, so to speak, so the cost will be in evacuating the system, replacing the evap and recharging the system.

I'm going to replace the consenser, evap and accumulator. I'll check the high pressure pipes for corrosion as well.

Have you looked at it to determine why it failed?

I just put a new condensor in my '96 and it failed because it corroded through at a steel mounting bracket. Dissimilar metals, poor design! I "slathered" NeverSieze between the brackets and the aluminum on the new one before I installed it. Hope it goes forever now.

I took their word for it. The repair place wouldn't toush it, no user installed parts. So I'm going to replace the consensor myself too. I wonder if a high side port can be added?

Using a high side port requires more equipment, multiple thermometers etc, and makes the charging process more error prone, or conversly, requires more skill on the part of a technician. Evacuating and then putting in the correct amount by weight has worked very well for me. (I bought a $300 vacuum pump the first time my AC went and I estimate it has now payed for itself in money saved by DIYing.)
