I have not, but .... I have heard that you could acuumvia the intake. I was a little skeptical about this. Anyone else heard of such a thing?

I probably won't use one of those quick-change kits, ever. If you read the instructions, it tells you to take the car to a dealership or service shop and have the system vacuumed out. This typically requires an overnight operation of sitting on the vacuum pump for many hours, putting a little of 134 into the system, and then vacuuming it out again. -just to make sure that you got all of it.

Also, many components should be changed. Several seals and probably the evaporator would be a good idea. Some components have a tendency to absorb some of the older R12 into them and they won't give it all up when it comes time to vacuum it out. (it depends on the seals/components and the manufacturer) You never want to have a mixture of R12 and R134 in the system since they are chemically incompatible. To put it bluntly, bad things will happen.

I'd look for a true conversion kit for the car. Expect to pay about $50 to $150 for all the hardware you'll need.

    God bless,
    Fitz Fitzgerald.

I've done it (not on a Volvo), and it works OK (for a little while) on a car you don't intend to keep. Unfortunately, with an 85, the evaporator is going to be an issue, and you'll end up with more problems in the long run than you'd have if you did the job right the first time. I'd never do it to a car I was either going to keep longer than about 6 months, or one I was going to sell to somebody I know.
