Blown out turn signal fuse, part II 200

First, thanks to Aye Roll for suggesting I take a look under the center console. That didn't solve the current problem (pun not intended), but I did discover and fix three ground wires in a common terminal that were hanging on by mere shreds.

Now, the fuse that keeps popping is #5. In my car #5 controls the turn signals and reverse lights. After some trial and error and about two boxes of 16 amp fuses, I've found I can pop a fuse simply by turning the key to the on position and pulling the M47 shifter into second gear. Any suggestions for checking the harness around the shifter or the reverse switch? Do I need to remove the shifter?

Thanks for your help.

Probably won't have to remove the shifter. The reverse light wiring runs under the boot through the shifter hole. You will have to remove the boot to inspect the wiring coming from the trans. Should be a 2 wire harness from the reverse light switch, routed along the shifter bracket, up through the hole in the floor, and ending at a 2 wire harness conector behind the left side panel for the center console.
