86 & 87, 740 Turbo 700

Hello,

Are the 86 & 87 Turbo mototrs interchangable?

I have an 86 Turbo with 300,000km, still runs strong, burns no oil. I have found a wrecked 87 Turbo (only the trunk is damaged, but they wrote it off). Car is complete, engine starts and purrs, ect.. They only want $800can for it, I figure this would make cheap insurance in the long run for my exsisting car.
Thanks

Dan

Excellent if you have space to store it. 700

If you keep the car as a parts car ala WV you still need to properly put in storage the engine/trans, rustproof the rotors/brakes, etc...otherwise you need to remove the parts you want and then store THEM properly. It really sux to have an engine you've stored for 5 years all rusted internally!!!

Check carefully. '87 might have been the first year for the water cooled turbo (and, incidentally, also the hydraulic motor mounts).

If so, then the '87 turbo and all of its extra plumbing could be a worthy addition to your car.

The motors, in toto, are interchangeable.
