Battery or Alternator problems? 200 1979

Hi all, and thank you all for the great advice I have been getting. I am slowly getting all the Brick's ailments taken care of. Tomorrow it will be in the hands of a highly recomemded Swedish repair shop. This is my current problem. July 4th the battery died in traffic. The little I know about cars told me that the battery is not the problem,(since it died at a red light) but the auto part store did a check of my systems and said it was the battery, so, I bought a new one. Well it happened again Saturday with my new battery. Low idle, stalling out. I was able to push start it. Funny thing though, for a second, it seemed not to be a probblem, the idle was fine it had all its power, then it happened again. Now it won't hold a charge. I put a battery from my truck in it, and disconnect it when I am not driving. Something that struck me odd is that after I put the current battery in from my truck, it started when I tested it, then I unhooked it, when I went to go to work later, I hooked the battery back up, and it was dead. I got a few clicks, I messed around with the terminals and it started right up, does this sound like a battery wire problem? Alternator tested fine when I bought the new battery.? Can an alternator go back and forth between working and not working? Like maybe it was working when I had it tested but went back on the fritz later? or do they just die, and they're dead?..Could the radio be causing a short? I get horrible static, and just shut it off when it does it but I didn't think it could drain the battery? Thanks in advance for the advice as always. I will have it in the garage in the morning, but its just bothering me, and it will all night, until I know, so I thought I'd post it here.. I am having ALL the other problems addressed as to get them all taken care of so I can get another 100,000 miles out of my Brick. Good news, I finally have a picture of my car I can scan and post, Bad news, It was taken by a red light enforcement camera, and it costed $75...so maybe I won't post it....:(...still its a good pic...Take care all, Franco79 '79 245dl 215k

Yep, poor connection. Clean and tighten.

Just to make sure that it is not the alt., hook up a voltmeter to the battery. Should read around 12V. Start car. Should read about 14V.

If the problem remains, you may have a current drain when the engine is off (and battery is connected).

If the parts are OK but don't work together it must be the wiring
between them.... Chase them down and make sure that every terminal and
junction is clean (shiny) and good and tight. Replace rotten wires.
(get a lot of those tubelike electrical terminals and a pair of pliers to
put them on if you don't already have them.)
