batery problems 200

I recently let my 245 workhorse sit for a few weeks. I stated it up and headed out to blow out the carboon and pick up some beer (not that it matters) I noticed while I was idling that the speedometer would jump. Shortly there after I was driving and the whole system shut off. Fortunatley someone gae me a boost but it kept on dying after I took the cables off.

I had the battery charged up and this issue is happening again. it would seem that all electrical items in the car worked very slowly. Does this sound like the altinator is pooched? it obvious there is someing wrong with the electrical system.

Help!

"I had the battery charged up and this issue is happening again"
Could be the battery not holding a charge or alt. not charging.

First, with the battery charged, key in the accessory (II) position, car not started, is alt. light on? Should be on or wire loose. Check ground wire and thin red wire at alt. for proper connection.

If you have a volt meter, check voltage of bat, should be around 12V fully charged. Start car. Check voltage at bat. Should be about 14.5V.
If alt. light dim/on after starting then voltage reg. brushes need replacing.

Disconnect fully charged bat. and leave overnight. Hook up in morning. If flat then need new bat.

Seems like this was happening to me. Try checking the voltage regulator out. Just unscrew the 2 screws on voltage regulator, pop out, and check the existing prongs. They should be at least 1/2" long or longer. You can also clean up the alt. wires since your at it. Not sure this will help, but it's sure worth a shot!
