Can a Mitsubishi TD04H-13 turb be used in place of a TD05 on a 1989 740 B230FT engine.

Help!

I am not an expert in this field, but I just had a mechanic perform a similar operation, and I believe in general the answer is yes, it is the details that have to be worked out. watch out for oil supply line, oil return line, attachment to manifold and whether they take the same manifold, hoses, various brackets etc. I will look which turbos I switched, one was a TD0512B, I'll see what the other was. Also look at posts from the last couple of day, there were some discussions on the performance attributes of the various mitsu turbos.

I checked the two turbos, and I exchanged a TD04 13 with a TD05 12B. So my original post applies, they both work, but it is in the details to get them to work. right now I am dealing with high pitched humming that occurs when the turbo kicks in, but that is unrelated. Another item to consider are the coolant lines. all I know was I handed the mechanic a box with the rebuilt turbo and associated parts and he mixed and matched using the existing parts. you will have to pay attention to getting the right gasket for the oil return line at the turbo. the one in the block is pretty standard.
