stuck distributor rotor...how to fix? 200

Howdy all,

I have had my '87 240 for about six months and am in the process of a full tune-up. I have been stumped by the following problem- the distributor rotor will not come off the shaft. I have tugged forcefully on it, and it will not budge. I do not want to damage the distributor, but I need to get the rotor off. I not only want to replace the rotor (which needs replacing), but I also need to adjust the dwell.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Keith

I often use a large flat-bladed screwdriver to pry the rotor off.

And be quite careful with the edge of the distributor- it's thin aluminum, and can break easily. Don't ask how I know this.

You can tap on the thing with a hammer and crack it if it's really stuck. They do get stuck.... put some grease under the new one. A tiny bit of Never-seize works great too.

Your car does not have points in the distrubutor, and there is not dwell to adjust. I have broken a distributor rotor by squeezing it with ChannelLocks when it would come off of the shaft.
