Is the output flange the same on the M40 & M41? 140-160

I'm swapping in an OD trans from an 1800 into my 72 145. The output flanges are 2 different sizes. Can they just be swapped? I'd like to use my same drive shaft[shortened, of course] if possible.

Thanks

Mike M.

On the J type splines are very different between M40 and M41, also 2 sizes of flange, pre 74 uses fiddly 12mm and 11mm nuts and bolts, 74 uses 14mm, I found that the flange off a 84 240 M46 fitted a 69 142 M41.

Yes and no. BTDT. The inner splines may be different. I've seen at least five? different spline patterns in the flanges (this includes the old school u-joint flange as well as the disc style). '63 or older, d-type, j-type, early, late...
Only way to find out is look.
    Best,
