Cargo Net, 240 DL wagon 200

Hello,

Can anyone give me advice on some kind of cargo net for the back of a 240 DL wagon? We'll be travelling soon with a lot of stuff and an infant in a rear-facing car seat in back, and I'd like to protect her from any projectiles in the unfortunate occurance of sudden deceleration.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

The dog barrier is great... 200

The last Volvo we had came with a swing down metal dog barrier. We liked it for the very reasons you want a barrier.

We could travel and not have objects come forward. When we would do long trips, the rear part was stacked to the roof, and nothing would fall forward on the kids.

When we needed to carry long objects, the barrier would hing up and clip into clips at the roof.

There must be used Volvos and Volvos at wrecking yards, pic-a-parts, that have these barriers.

Some of the installations are with either Allen wrench machine screws, or the newer ones with Torx (tm) heads.

If you find one that you can tear out and install, note where the barrier hinges mount, so you know where to install it in your wagon.

The question I have for anyone out there - are there factory mounting spots for these barriers??

Or do they mount where the shoulder straps anchor for the rear facing "jump" seat??

good luck.

If memory serves me correctly, the upper mounting points for the OEM dog/cargo barrier (>85) already exist behind the headliner. Its a small "body nut" that you simply have to feel for and then puncture a small hole in the headliner to mount the upper brackets. The lower brackets have to be mounted in back of the rear seat. That's where the drilling part comes in. If you do manage to find one of these in a boneyard, it should only take a few minutes to remove with common hand tools.

I had the OEM metal cargo barrier in my old `83 245. It was fairly inexpensive at the time and installation was a snap even though it required some drilling. Volvo also offers a different cargo barrier for 1986 and newer 245s, but the last time I checked is was $300+(OUCH...too much for my wallet!!). You could always just get one of the aftermarket versions from IPD for about $70.

Thanks both of you for the advice. Bill, do you have contact information for IPD? Jim H.
