Exhaust woes 200

Ok my 88 240 auto sedans exhaust rusted out. Two pipes come out from the manifold then merge into one pipe and back to a triangle 3 bolt flange.(It rotted out right behind the flange.) Then runs back to the muffler. 1 What is the bubble in between marked flow? and since I got the pipe off from the muffler to the flange can I replace just that piece or do I have to start from the manifold and replace it to the muffler? Thanks Sean
