Exhaust woes 200

Ok my 88 240 auto sedans exhaust rusted out. Two pipes come out from the manifold then merge into one pipe and back to a triangle 3 bolt flange.(It rotted out right behind the flange.) Then runs back to the muffler. 1 What is the bubble in between marked flow? and since I got the pipe off from the muffler to the flange can I replace just that piece or do I have to start from the manifold and replace it to the muffler? Thanks Sean

Exhaust woes 200

When that happened to me, I just ordered the whole system from an E-bay store. It turned out to be a Walker system(but they call themselves something else now)
Although I read some less than flattering posts about this system, I am completely pleased-it fit well, was easy to install, and included all the hangers and clamps that I needed. It was less than $150.00

check fcpgroton.com, look for the downpipe.

Note that there are various ones, you need to be sure of the O2 sensor you have on the pipe and EGR setup.

It's actually simple to replace, bolts on both sides. Get new gaskets.

If the rest of the exhaust is still intact, you can wait.

Exhaust woes; dont forget the support bolt 200

same thing happened to me. looks kike you are in for a new down pipe. i bought one from my foreigh auto store at about 1/10th the price of the volvo shop.

while you are at it, y bet is that the support bracket from your old downpipe is gone too. make sure you hook up the new one. i had to use an old bolt to do mine. it makes the installation sturdier. good luck

The "bubble" is your catalytic converter. There should be an arrow by the flow to indicate the flow direction through the converter (for installation). If you are talking about the flange on the engine side, then you can unbolt the flange and replace your downpipe (the 2 pipes merging into one) If the flange on the back side of the converter is broken you need a new connecting pipe. You should look at your whole system though. Quite often when one part goes the rest is not that far behind.
