Hey gang,

Does anybody know for certain if I should be able to cycle the wastegate actuator rod a little bit when the car isn't running? I never tried and I'm trying to diagnose a boost problem. The car idles and runs fine until the boost gauge crosses the line to boost. Then I get indication of boost for a few seconds and the car just starts stumbling worse and worse until I back off. I can't find any vac line or intake hose leaks and I can't move the linkage for the wastegate.

If the wastegate is stuck, has anybody ever BTDT and have a fix that doesn't involve pulling the turbo?

I would greatly appreciate all input.

    on another note, if you've got an intercooler, you should be able to run 10 psi no problem, what i did on my old 240 was to just bypass the overboost pressure switch under the dash, it looks just like the one under the hood. i think it's connected in series with whatever provides the ground for the fuel pump relay, so just cut the 2 wires that go to it and splice them to each other.

    it may be the overboost pressure switch, it's suppose to cut out the fuel pumps when there's too much boost, then turns them back on when it drops enough, then cuts back out.... etc. i had the exact same problem on a 240, took me 6 months to figure it out.

      Do you know the specs for testing the over-boost cutout. I have an autoranging MM so I can test if I know the specs. I didn't see them in the Haynes manual.

        i think it's around 10 psi, ask someone on turbobricks, i'm sure they know.
