wheel knocking 200 1989

I saw someone with this problem but no solution. When I first take off my front right wheel will do this knocking thing about one out of ten times. I let off the gas a little and then resume accelerating and it stops. It makes me feel like my wheel is about to fall off. It knocks some and each knock is accompanied by a little bump like running over a rock. Thanks. Eric 240 DL 1989

    wheel knocking 200 1989

I just fixed a bad clunk in the LF of my 87... combination of a really bad inner tie rod end and a control arm bushing that was worn out, loose on the control arm stud.
I would investigate both of those things- with the three bolts loose on the control arm bushing bracket, the bushing problem became obvious. It was hard to tell before.

The tie rods you can check by having someone shake the wheel for you while you put your hand on them.
    Any play= replace.

It could be alot of things, here is a few common things.....

1)loose lug nuts/or worn lug nut seats on rim/or worn lug nut seats on lug nuts (the concave part of lug nut/or rim)

    2)Inner tie rod end clunking.

3)Ball joint. When you accelerate the car lifts up and pulls the ball joint ball up,(kinda type thing),when you brake the front of car settels down and re-seats the ball joint ball into the ball holder.

    4)bad wheel bering.

    5)A-frame bushings worn.

Your discription is vouge, so I would say lift front end up,and make sure every thing is tight, than remove lug nuts and inspect the seats(concave part of lug/rim for trueness.GOOD LUCK, you don't have a tire plug in the tire do you, those thump untill worn in.
