brake fluid brands 200

Does anybody have any recommendations for or against certain brands of brake fluid? DOT 4, I know but are there any differences between brands? Thanks for any suggestions,

Sarah

I've never had a problem with Castrol GT/LMA Dot4 brake fluid. Its relatively inexpensive and can be purchased almost anywhere.

I just went through a brake fluid learning curve. Some manuals say not to mix brands, so its probably not a good idea. However, I contend that fresh mixed brands are better that old dirty same brand.

Also my advice is not to buy big bottles as some say its not good to let half used fluid sit around in the shop. I guess it collects moisture.

So, what I have dove is buy the small (about 6 ounce) plactic bottles of Castrol GT/LMA Dot4. Seems to work fine for me. ATE is recomended in my users manual, but its a bear to find.

Small bottles can be easier to pour too. Stay away from metal containers as I had a metal container get rusty. Dumped that can.

Now for the burning question, what method did you use to bleed? Sucked, blown, or pedal pumped? I tried sucked and pedal pumped and frankly neither was very slick. It was a lot more tricky than the manual make it look.

Good advice, but I have to disagree about the metal cans. Most of the better fluids use metal cans since they keep out water better. The cans and bottles do have a limited life. You should not need to change the fluids for another two years so it's not good to plan on keeping your can for the next change - it abosorbs moisture once unsealed too. Use fresh fluid for a change.

fcpgroton carries the ATE superblue if anyone is looking.

    Valvoline Synthetic DOT 4 200

I'm using Valvoline SynPower Dot 4 (synthetic). It's about $5 a quart and I've had great results with it. After reading the label on the bottle and the testimonials on their website, I didn't do much more agressive shopping for other brands. The selection of DOT 4 is somewhat limited around here to Valvoline and the 'store brands' (Autozone, Napa, etc.)

    God bless,
    Fitz Fitzgerald.

All fluids are synthetic. Don't use silcone. Castrol, Valvoline syn, Pentosin, Ate are all excellent dot 4 fluids.
