1991 740 changing engines 700 1991

I am thinking about trying to change out the B230 engine in my 1991 740 to the turbo version of the same. I was wondering if this could cause any major problems, or involve any major conversions under the hood.

You're better off selling the non-turbo and buying a turbo. The parts cost will be close to the price of buying a running turbo car. If you have to pay anyone to do the labor or even part of it, it just becomes prohibitive. You need a complete car really- engine wiring harness, computers, intercooler, hoses, battery cables, airbox, on and on, it's a lot of stuff to change.

Check out www.bargainnews.com to see how cheap Volvos have gotten up here- they're everywhere for under 3K.

This is quite major. Gordon Vos, who posts here as Vos, made this conversion almost a year ago. It is a major job and requires quite a bit of electrical work. There is a huge list of 700 series turbo parts which you must have on hand before you start. I provided almost everything but the engine and flex plate to Gordon, so I know the parts list is extensive.

The engine ECU, engine wiring harness, ECU wiring, EZK, and EZK wiring all need to be changed besides all of the visible stuff under the hood.
