fuel/temp gauges 200 1989

Do everybodys fuel/temp gauges get to their accurate positions quickly or slowly? I've had my brick about a year and a half, and it seems these gauges move slowqer and slower with time. Just curious if i should be concerned...

I had a similiar problem with my 85 245. I had replaced the temp sensor and the wiring harness but my temp. guage read either very low or slow to indicate the right temp. Also the fuel guage always read low.

I got some used guages at the bone yard and replaced them. Now they both read very accurate.

I am not sure if the problem was the guages or the connectors being dirty.

Try to remove and reconnect the main connector several times to see if this might clean the connections enough to make a difference.

Its very easy to get to from behind the dash. You can get to both of the guage cluster connectors with little trouble once you remove that fabric access cover (whatchama call it?) over the pedals.

Good luck.

Maybe a problem with the compensation board or the voltage regulator.
Not sure if it's in the FAQ, but if you search on the board under 'compensation board' you can try Don Foster's bypass method.

when many gauges behave badly and together, check the comp circuit. sometimes on the cluster there is a regulator for the gauges. look there. also, it may be a temperature compensated regulator, to account for temperature-caused resistance changes in sending units.

might be the un identifiable thing with three wires/traces to it.
