More pre-pump questions 200

So I wrestled the sender unit out only to be left with a few questions:

The accordian hose looked like it had collapsed, however the hose clamps that were on the pump are in very good shape (and are of much higher quality than anything I could buy around here). The hose I got from IPD is normal fuel hose, but the O.D. is way too large to fit in the (nice) hose clamps. Is thin walled fuel line something I could find easily from someone other than the dealer?

The insulation for the ground wire is shot. Bentley says replace, which makes sense. Explosion hazard if I don't? Who sells good fuel tolerant wiring (it's impractical to buy locally, waaay too expensive)?

That IPD tool is worth its weight in gold. I can't imagine banging at the retaining ring with a pair of screwdrivers.

Just use the fuel line, and new SS clamps. Don't worry about tightness, there is very little fuel pressure at that pump anyway - it won't leak.

Make sure you adjust the position (hight) of the new pump with filter the same as the old one (i.e. you might need to cut the fuel hose).

I would think most all-weather automotive wire should be ok in fuel. You should though try it - soak it in fuel overnight and make sure the insulation is good in the morning.

Enjoy. BTW I banged away at my lock ring with the screwdriver, luckely it did not blow up in my face. Job is nice, the new pre-pump I got from groton is louder than the original though - but it works!

I guess, I'm most worried about running with the bare ground strap. Is there enough oxygen in the tank to pose an explosion hazard?

I could probably find decent hose clamps (as opposed to the cheapie ones that deformed instantly) and decent wiring. But not quickly. For whatever reason, the auto parts stores around here tend to have pretty slim pickings (almost no metric anything).

Of course, I'd like to get the car running in the interim while I look for proper replacement parts.. but I'm not too eager to blow myself up :)

did this with my 84 240 dl. throw away those hose clamps, will only work with that hose and i dont think volvo sells it. i went to volvo when i replaced mine...he sold me reg fule line hose, said they put this in all of em. 2 new stainless steel clamps and replace the fuel filter sock i think its a PS-2 A/C part number. take old one to parts place match up. this was the reason the guy who owned this car sold it. he kept takin it to a high dollar repair place(with no real volvo mechanic)they replaces every high dollar fuel injection part under the hood(i got all the reciepts with the car)and i fixed it for less the $10. as for the wiring...replace all the wire. there is no special FUEL RESISTANT wire. all wire sold today will work. what i did with mine was to cut existing wire an inch from each end, get new wire, cut it to replacement lenght, get some heat shrink slide on new wire and solder the new wire in place(if soldered there can be no sparks)slide heat shrink up over and heat. thats it.
