What does DL and GL and GT stand for? 200

The DL, which is purportedly short for "DeLuxe", was the base model in the United States ("L" overseas). DL's have cloth or vinyl seats (sedan and wagon respectively), manual windows, and very few bells and whistles. The GL ("GranLuxe") has power windows, leather seats, and a plethora of standard amenities. Some GL's have sunroofs as well. The GT was basically a "sporty" DL with some suspension modifications.

The "DL" and "GL" are mechanically identical. Not sure about the GT.

My 1990 240 DL has power everything, chrome trim and rack, leather seats (maybe Vinyl), seat heaters and stereo system. The only thing it doesn't have as far as extras are the sunroof and maybe leather seats. So, this doesn't sound right to me.

They just represent the different trim levels. The DL is the lower trim level, the GL is the top level trim, and the GT was the sporty model. The GLT is the the turbo.

Hmmm...Gran Turbo? other car makers used GT to mean Gran Turismo (Grand Touring). Weren't the GT models marketed in the late 70's prior to introduction of the turbocharged engines? The 240 GLT - as delivered for the Canadian market anyway - had much of the trim of the Turbo models without the turbo engine. I think. (Virgo rims, many gauges, perhaps the uprated susp., etc).

        Hello,

Canadian normally aspirated GLT's (like mine) actually have more power than the original non-intercooled 240 Turbo's. B23E engines benefitted from what seemed to be an experiment in high air flow with K-type cams, high-compression engines, large displacement and lack of catalytic converters.

Mine doesn't have an LSD so it spins the tires very easily if you don't watch what you are doing... or am I???

        Happy Bricking,
