where is flame trap in/ near intake manifold? 700

1987 760 turbo w/intercooler

where is the flame trap/ flame arrestor located in my engine? i understand that if it is clogged that it will cause many problems with my engine and since i have many problems with my engine, maybe removing it and cleaning it (or throwing it completely away as my mechanic friend suggested) might help. I know it is under the intake manifold but that's all i know. does anyone have pictures of the location or can someone describe how to get to it and remove/replace it?

thanks,
trina

Go to http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineSealsBeltsVent.htm#Flame_Trap_Crankcase_Ventilation_Questions. The second image on the right is the turbo nipple. You want this one sparkling clean. If it's clogged or elsehow damaged, replace it. FCP Groton sells this for a few bucks. Other than that, 'the kick inside' said it all.

you should have a large (ish) hose leading from the hose that connects your airbox to your turbo over your cam cover...the flametrap is at the end of this hose...follow the hose..you found it...

Your mechanic obviously ommitted to tell you that a turbo doesnt HAVE a flame trap - only the holder...this, the associated pipes, the nipple in the manafold and the breather box under it should ALL be cleaned out and sorted...see the FAQ...

If you find a flame trap in the holder ditch it...turbo's shouldnt have one..non turbo's should.....also tell the mechanic please not to recomend NA users to ditch it - its not a good idea its a safety feature and there for a good reason!

ps..do clean it out, failure to do so can lead to oil seal failure and lots of nasty things...also read the FAQ from top to bottom..you will be AMAZED aboutuhow many of your issues I BET it will help you solve!
