Cracked dash mitigation 700 1990

I thought I might escape the dreaded 740 cracked dash syndrome until I saw the beginnings of some cracks at the stesss points the other day. I have not used Armorall products and I have slathered the dash with McGuires(sp?) products in the past. I even bought a dash cover to protect it from the sun. Ah well. If I could stress relieve the crack areas I might be able to stop the spread. Has anyone ever been successful at mitigating the problem? I have thought of:
a) Taking a heat gun to the area to gently head it up to let the plastic give a little.
b) drilling a hole at the crack ends to spread out the stress. Then fill with some plastic resin and colour match and texturize it.

I suppose someone has tried this and more without success, otherwise it would be in the FAQ.

Cracked dash mitigation 700 1990

Bill: A couple of weeks ago on a late night TV info-mercial I saw a product for repairing ripped leather and/or vinyl with color matching kit. Fixing auto upholstery was a highlight. I thought at the time this might be a good item to repair the cracks in my 740 GL's dash. Unfortunately I can't recall the product name. Perhaps some else has seen this add and can advise of the name. Good luck, all three of my volvo's had and have cracks in the dash.

The idea is good, sort of the way they do to arrest glass cracks and aluminum fatigue in aircraft. Worth a try, but I wonder if part of the problem is the plastic shrinking from outgassing.

Hope we hear more from folks.
