trailing hitch installation 200

What's required to install a trailing hitch on the back of a car?

Are all cars equipped with some type of mounting area that I can just buy a hitch and bolt it to?

What about wiring for brake lights?

BTW, it is a volvo 850 turbo wagon 1995.

Thanks!

I don't know about the 850, But I just put a Draw-tite hitch on my '90 745. It was simple. I had to remove the "skirt" from under the bumper, and the towing hook(4 bolts). The hitch used the threaded holes from the towing hook and 4 identical ones on the other side. I haven't looked into attaching lights yet.

All the ones I've seen have a bar that clamps on to the two bumper mounting struts. And a tab that sticks out with the hitch on it. This tab is also secored to the under-side of the bumper with a bolt or two for stabilization. Looked like a piece of cake to install. Don't know about the wiring, but it should be simple enough. And i would imagine that any newly purchased hitch should have some wiring instructions included for help. (BTW, i am only familiar with the 240s, but imagine that 850 is not very different.)

    Cheers - SPC 1987 245DL 229k
