New Car Brake Braggarts; Ignorance Of Technical History 140-160

Greetings All!
Just an old geezer venting . . .
Amuses me to see recent advertising in which manufacturers of
overpriced, techno-loaded, gizmo-mobiles boast of their "VENTED
DISC BRAKES". Uh, gimme just a moment to clear the fog from my
gin-soaked neurons . . . Didn't a certain Swedish firm offer
these in the 72nd year of the PREVIOUS CENTURY???
And yet, recently here on the 'Board, Mr.'S' commented,
"Oh--you can't compare those OLD FASHIONED brakes with what exists
today". GGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr . . . . .
Where's that bottle . . . Gonna paint my next Volvo
"Tanqueray Green" . . .

Let's face it, we are spoiled...... 140-160

Reading through eBay Volvo cars and seeing how IMPORTANT the special features their offerred Volvo is. Such as Power Steering, Power brakes, Central locks, Vented 4-wheel disc brakes, tinted windshield, delay wipers, rear window de-mist, heated seats, DOHC engine, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseam.

It still surprises me that what I have grown to see as just normal is what others see as something special. I fear that if I were to actually entertain purchasing a non-Volvo I would miss something because I forgot to ask for it because I expect ALL cars to have it.

Regards,

Bob

Heck, Volvo's always been at the top of their game...

I also like all the "DOHC" badging and advertising on these new cars.... My Jag turned 50 this year, and Jaguar had been using double overhead cam engines for 5 years by then. Not to mention disc brakes which became an option in '57, and standard in about '62....

4 wheel disks on the dual triangular circuit were introduced in 1966 with the 1967 144.

Amazing that US built passenger cars still roll off the showroom floor with drums.

But Don't Let the Public Know About These Technical Features 140-160

It might put old Volvos in demand and make them expensive.

The "dumbing down" of the car-buying public...sell more cars that way. Formula: 1 old Volvo=3 other cars. Class dismissed. ~:>/
