1982 K-Jetronic CIS - No fuel to injectors ? 200 1982

Hi
I have an 82 240 GL with the K-Jetronic CIS. I bought the car for a song knowing it had a "No Start" problem. First, I found the engine wiring harness
was falling apart. I replaced that. Then, I found the main fuel pump seized. I replaced that. I've tested the "in-tank" pump and it works fine. The main pump is now working great. I have good fuel pressure at the "Cold Start Injector" but I'm not getting any fuel to the injectors. I loosened the connection from one of the injectors at the fuel distributor to see if maybe the injectors were not getting enough pressure to open,It seems I'm not getting any fuel pressure from the fuel distributor to the injectors. What could be the cause of this ? Could it be a vacuum issue somewhere or is it a good possibility the fuel distributor is faulty. Thanks, Jim

    The most likely explanation is that the control plunger in the fuel distributor
    is as seized as the main pump was.
    Check by removing the big air hose between the air metering unit and the throttle body. Most likely the hose you just removed
    Jumper the pumps to run continuously with ignition on.
    You can then manually lift the air metering flap gently (do not force it or you will bend the linkage) with pliers on the center nut, if the injectors then get fuel you brobably have a massive air leak preventing the engine sucking enough air to lift the flap.
    One other possibilty is excessive pressure on the control plunger caused by a stuck warm up regulator (not very likely) but you would need a pressure gauge to check.
    Also sytem pressure could be too low to open the injectors,(about 4 bar/60 psi from memory) and you cannot really check fuel pressure just by slackening a pipe.

    Jim,

    I, too, bought mine for a "song" as it had quit running and vegetated for 4-5 years. This is my third CIS equipped car (others being 320i and VW Sciroco) and I have twice found it necessary to "tear down" the fuel distributor and clean out the gum and varnish. If yours has been inop for a long period of time then you might need to give it a good flushing.

    I just disassemble it, clean out every orifice with Berryman's B-12, clean every part, and reassemble. So far I'm 2 out of 2 for success. The important things are to keep everything squeaky clean, get all the pieces-parts back in their original locations, and don't drop or scratch the plunger/rod.

    If you jump the fuel pump relay and raise the air "vane" by hand to you get any fuel to the injectors?

      Hi Justin

      You mentioned raising the "Air Vane" by hand. Where is this located ? What confuses me is the car was running fine 2 weeks prior to when I bought it so I doubt it's gummed up but I guess it's possible. Is it very difficult to remove the fuel Distributor ? I wish I had done it when I removed the intake manifold to get to the wiring harness !!!! Oh well, just another day. Also, I'm wondering if this is the same Justin I just sent a money order to for an Ebay purchase? Thank, Jim Jordan

        I guess it's correct nomenclature is "air-flow-sensor". It's the thingy that Collin described in his post. You are right, if it's only been dead for a couple weeks things shouldn't be gummed up unless it's got several year old gas in it!

        Check line pressure, it should be 65-77 psi.
