Seat belt pre-tensioner on powered seats? 700 1990

My '90 740 has seat belt pre-tensioner for the front seats, I believe these only became standard on 700 series in 1990.

I recently pulled a 2nd hand powered driver's seat from a wrecked '88 760, which doesn't have pre-tensioner, and I had problem fitting the seat belt pre-tensioner from my '90 seat onto the '88 seat... seems like the gear mechanism for the seat back tilt will get in the way.

So my question is - were seat belt pre-tensioners fitted on '90 models with powered seats? If so, how were they fitted? I know on later models (960's?) they moved the pre-tensioner mechanisms into the B pillar, but on my '90 model it's bolted to the seat. I wouldn't mind the luxury of powered driver seat but I don't want to compromise a safety feature for it.

Seat belt pre-tensioner on powered seats? 700 1990

The only belts with pyrotechnical pretensioners are models 1992 and up. They all have tensioners in different areas, but they are the standard models that lock under certain deceleration force. Basically all the seats have pretensioners. The ones for power/std seats maybe are different. Not much of a seat belt expert.

I can't remember the exact design of the 90 740 and the 88 760. But I think if you use the 760's seat belt as well, it should be the same. Perhaps I'm thinking of a different problem than you're having. It just seems as though, if you use the 88's belt, it should be OK.

Sorry I should've clarified in my original post. The pre-tensioner I was referring to wasn't the pyrotechnical type, it's the mechanical seat belt pretensioner mounted to the seat. It's where the seatbelt latch mechanism is to be exact. There is a small red knob by the side which in the car's owners manual says to depress with a screwdriver and turn one half turn to release before any work is done to the mechanism.

Anyone know if this is fitted to powered seats in '90 models?
