Temperature sensor question 120-130 1966

I have a new (used) instrument panel to install. PO clipped off the temp guage wire at the sensor. Is it feasible to reattach the wire to the old sensor AT the sensor? Or should I splice the wire together elsewhere? Would the latter require soldering? Is length of the cable critical to the accuracy of the temp guage? (i'm fuzzy on things electronic, resistance, etc. really fuzzy.)

Thanks in advance

jgfinn

Is bad! Person who cut tube ruin gage for permanently! Should have tools taken away and hear Uncle Bruno big lecture! Like other smart wrenchmasters say already is not for fix now only for decoration. Can use old kind green white or newer kind in same panelfitsing. Tiny screwings on backside for holding in place. Needing extra carefulness for install to car and no bending tube!

Also knowing Amazonn gages very not accurate and driver get used to maybe new pointing.

It isn't a wire, it's a capiliary tube that was filled with ether until it got snipped, now unfortunately it's dead until intervention frm someone that can recondition these things.

Do you think the sensor as is ("snipped") classifies as exchangeable? I see Scandcar and CVI sell new guages w/ exchange and wonder if it is worth something as is.

If the gauge itself is not wrecked It'll be acceptable as an exchange.

The path of least resistance (sorry...) is to get a working temp gauge from a scrap cluster. Easy enough to swap into yours.
