Fuel Pumps for 240 DL 1984 200 1984

My 84 240 dl runs well 99.9 % until that time when it starts ok and then 15 seconds later stops. Overtime I have found that no gas is getting to the carb. Took off the fuel hose to the carb and found no gas in the line. To get it going I shoot down some quick start and that seems to prime it and the engine works fine. I always seem to know when it fells because the engine runs very quiet with no pickup. Want to know if there are two fuel pumps with this vintage and are the fuses that are labeled in the fuse holder for the two pumps valid. I checked the tank from the trunk inside to see if there are any wires going in but can't see any. The hose going to the carb looks like its going to a small type pump on the side of the engine. Any thoughts, suggestions much appreciated.

Steve

Fuel Pumps for 240 DL 1984 200 1984

Is the pump directly behind the distributor, attached with two bolts directly to the engine?

Yes it is, just below the distributor.

I don't have any experience with carbureted bricks, but it sounds like the fuel pump might need replacing. I don't know if they have an internal check valve that prevents it from losing prime or not, but that would be a likely place to start. I just think it's completely cool that yours is carbureted. Where do you live? An '84 for the US market would be undoubtedly fuel injected. I wonder if yours was made for another market, or if someone converted it to carbureted.

Cheers,
Lance

Thanks for the reply. I bought the car in 84 here in Toronto. At that time $16,000 Canadian. It's a very basic engine with some pollution control. Do you think it may have an additional pump in or near the tank and a fuel filter.

Steve
