Back shocks - easy to replace or really hard 200 1991

I can tell you first hand on friday. I have got a new set of Bilsteins sitting on my living room floor waiting to be put in. It should be interesting. The original shocks in the car have been totally blown out since January, so I will be going from a yo-yo to stiff sport shocks.

Just finished. It was really easy. I didn't even use P Blaster. It took about 20 minutes a side once I had the car up on stands. Make sure you have 2 18mm sockets to get the bottom nut off (the bolt spins).

As people have indicated the rear shocks are a snap... IF the bottom bolt is not rusted into the sleeve. Sometimes the nut can be removed without much drama but you then find the bolt rusted into the metal sleeve that goes through the rubber bushing on the end. At that point the bolt can not be removed until you release the death grip the sleeve has on it. When it happened to me I burned away the rubber and after a good soaking with Kroil I held the sleeve with a large pair of ViseGrips and was finally able to break the bolt loose. If I remember the sleeve is a rolled piece and attacking the seam with a cold chisel broke the rust grip and allowed the penetrant to enter and do its magic. Until you get the rubber out of the playing area you can not get at the sleeve.

gsoros,
Super easy if you got jackstands & tools. I would hit the bolts with a little P-Blaster the day before the job is to go down... the rest is gravy... half day at the most. Peace, Jon

Except sometimes those babies are really frozen 200 1991

When I got tired of jacking up the car day after day so I could shoot some PBlaster right on the top nuts, I gave up and took the car to a shop. Even they spun one of the top bolts trying to get them off.

Good luck (and I really really mean it).

Doug Harvey

Did mine after 12 years with a little spray. May only take an hour.

Yeah, if nothing is rusted/frozen it's about 10 minutes per side once you get it jacked up and the tires off...
