Power seat won't elevate S90-V90 1997

The drivers side power seat on my 1997 V90 won't elevate at the front. All other positions work OK. I can hear the motor running but no movement of the seat. Is this something I can possible repair myself or must I spent big bucks at the dealer? If someone can tell me what the likely problem is and how to get at it, I would be most appreciative. Thanks, John McLaine, Thousand Oaks, CA

If the motor is turning the cable is broken or has gotten too short(Sounds strange but it happens). A new volvo cable costs about $35. I had a cable that shortened and was able to change it without removing the seat. I disconnected all the bolts that hold the cover plate to the motor assembley. Then I removed the cable from the motor and slid out the cable shaft and slid in the new shaft. Then reassembled the cover plate assembly.

I easily repaired the tilt function fo the power seat in a 760 by repiaring the cable housing. In this car, the inner cable which drove one sid of the seat, was made a little too short for the cable jacket. I shortened the housing and it worked fine.

You will need to remove the seat and see what the problem is. Is the gear box stripped, or is the motor turning but not driving the cable(s), or has the cable come loose at one end, etc.

John, these power seats are cable operated for the most part. My '98 S90 seat failed and the repair estimate was almost $500. The excuse was labor. I sold the car.
