You might want to follow Bob's advice concerning the connectors. All you have to do is take it off and you can also unclip the connector to expose the metal teeth fittings. You can clean them with a light sand paper and pinch them with some pliers so they get a better connection. Also while your at it, go ahead and use the sand paper to sand lightly on the copper ring where the bulb holder rests on when screwed onto. There will sometimes be loss of elec. contact between the bulb holder and copper ring (ring being on the circuit board) from a deposit build up. This is a very simple procedure and solved my brake and back-up light problems after 3 years. You might want to check them out once and awhile to make sure they're still working from time to time. Take care, and hope this helps!

So are you certain that it is water leaking in that's blowing the bulbs?

Another thing to check is the connector that hooks the wiring harness on to the circuit board.

Set the car up so that the lights should be on, then go back and wiggle the connector, and watch. For the brake lights with no helper, use the jack crank handle jammed between the front of the driver's seat and the pedal. It may be necessary to move the seat forward a little.

Good Luck,

Bob

also, I found my loose spare tire banging into the taillight fixture caused intermittent tail light problems. strap was broke.

I suppose you could use clear silicone and caulk up all the cracks that let water in or buy a different tail light assembly. You can get decent ones on "that auction site" for $25-$50... You need to do something before you also rust out your spare tire well. I replaced my tail lights right after a real hard rain and the old left was full of water and so was my spare tire well.
