Need help with tire size! 700

Hello Volvo friends! I have a 1991 740 with the factory size 185-65-R15 tires.
I would like to replace these with some 205-55-R15
This tire is about 1/2 inch smaller in diameter and about 1 inch wider.
How much will this throw off the speedometer at 60 mph (100km)?
Will I need a front end alignment?
Can anyone give me suggestions, advice or tips about such a change.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Eddie

    Tire size calculator! 700

Here's a GREAT tire size calculator:

    http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

You plug in your stock size, and the size and profile of the new tires, and it gives you the deviation.

If you went with 215/55-15s they would be almost perfect in diameter... wider than stock but still should fit fine. The 205/55 is a little small, 1/2 inch or so as noted. If the speedometer isn't too much of a problem, then run whatever you like.

Need help with tire size! 700

    Hey Eddie,

Just two hours ago I bought a set of 16" wheels and tires from tirerack.com.for my 740 Turbo Wagon. I was thinking about wider tires, too.

I decided that going with 16 x 7.5 x 22mm wheels and 205/55/16s would give the look I was going for without the speedomoter error issues. The Borbett Type E SML has the proper offset, and is in my opinion, a pretty handsome wheel.

I elected to go with Yokohama AVS ES100 tires. They are realitively inexpensive but have a good reputation. I have been driving Yokohama snows(4)since last fall, and they were teriffic for winter driving. I think, in their price range, they're about as good as you can get.

Don't think I helped, but I thought you might be interested.
