No Cup holders in 240 Volvo 200

I'm a coffee drinker, and the dilemma I have is that there are no cup holders in the 240 Volvo. Any suggestions? What have you used? Location and brands to purchase are appreciated....

I've used these for years. I think they were intended to mount inside the door where the window retracts, but I never liked it that close to my hands and didn't like squeezing the flap thingy into the door. So I put the flap inside my glove box door. I works well, and that slit in the larger compartment is great for coffee cups and beer steins.

The one drawback is heavy items placed in one compartment causes the holder to lean. Another is the plastic mount holding the flap to the holder breaks over time, especially in a hot, sunbaked car and if used to hold heavy beer steins.

I've found them at Pep Boys in the past, but nowhere else.

I have come up with one that works well for me. I took a plastic dvd case and bolted a single adjustable plastic cup holder that can be found in any auto part store or even walmart. The dvd case will slide right between the seats above the park brake. It fits so well that I can put almost any sized drink without it moving and yet pull it out and set it on passenger seat if I need park brake. I am one of those people that always likes to have something to drink so I was determaned to set something up that really works and believe me if you don't need your park brake all the time you will not mind this arangement at all.

    bottoms up, lenny

I bought a "Caddy Jr." (or a name like that) from Wal-Mart for about 4 bucks and it works for me. It's a width-adjustable (with lock) two sided cup holder that I mounted with velcro tape on the dash right above the glovebox.
It will hold even the largest (widest) of coffee mugs, and cans of soda too. Not enough clearance to the windshield to hold the 20oz. bottles or large cups from fast-food joints though.
I leave for work early in the AM usually with a mug of coffee, and I've yet to have a spill while the mug was in the holder (the fact that the potholes are finally being filled around here helps too).

Cup holders for 240 Volvo are hard to find....... 200

unless you have a tall thin cup that'll fit into the front corner of the map pocket. Or a mug that will squish in between the E-brake handle and the seat. Or you leave the glove box door open, put a napkin on the indented area, and drive very smoothly.

Just another reason to enjoy having a coffee-colored interior trim!

    Regards,

    Bob

I always wedged my stainless strabucks cup inbetween the passenger seat and the ebrake. I tried one of those clip-on-the-air-vent cup holdres, but it didn't allow for enough height below the dash to hold anything taller then a coffee mug, and I don't drink out of mugs in the car.

IPD has a cup holder for the 240 but it requires the coin tray for support (not a problem in most cars) and it partially blocks one of the heater/AC outlets.
I would provide a link but I just went to their website and it seems that their server is out to lunch.

For a $2 I bought a hang on one at the Volvo dealer. I opened the glove box and it hangs right there next to the other one. If you need one email me. Dave.

I'm also a big fan of wedging between the e-brake and the passenger seat. I find that I like that better than using the built in cup holders in most other cars.

That's what I do, too. No coin tray in my car. It works for me.

          Adding a coin tray to a pre-1983 240 Volvo 200

My 1979 245DL had no coin tray, but I found one in a Jyard. It came from a 1980, 81, or 82, before the dash was totally redone. It replaces the trim strip that fits along below the clock and center vents. Not real strong, but nice for lighter weight coinage and paper clips and pencils. Maybe there's one out there for you? Or, if I decide to part out my 1979, would you be interested - assuming it's still OK?

          Regards,

I have bid unsuccessfully on a couple of those on eBay. I would probably be interested if it's the right color, brown in my case.
Was that item standard on the GL models?

There's a guy that looked at my brick that had a wagon with the older style dash and the coin tray. He borrowed a friends and took it to an acrylic shop and them build one for him, it looked nice.

I too wedge cups between the parking brake and seat. I just wanted to know if there were more presentable alternatives. THanks though....
