Last week I asked if the clear plastic lens on my 1990 240dl instrument cluster could be replaced. The popular opinion was to just replace the entire unit because the clear lens is plastic rivited to the fascia -and probably impossible to remove. Besides, the opportunity to upgrade to a version with a tachometer, and the installation of white faces, is almost irresistable... So, my question is: what year(s) will interchange with my car? I think the number on the speedo is k10042. Is that an important factor in any alteration? As always, muchas gracias.

I changed my instrument cluster lens this year, mine was cracked and bugging me. It was an easy change out. Plastic rivited? Huh? Did they mean melted plasic welds? That's how mine was attached, just pop the melted welds (takes 2 seconds)and re-glue replacement in place. Use any lens housing between "81-93" don't forget to replace idiot light plastic strips with your own.

I kept the idiot light strips from an "85" because it had cool "idiot" text on it, yours is just black. The housing cost me $10 dollars at the PICK 'N' PULL.
Don't take the instrument gauges, use your own.

Tach and 52mm clock:
Yes, I did it also, use the red/wht wire hanging in back of the cluster. Go for it!

White face gauges:
Pulling the speedo needle off is difficult without breaking it. Don't go for it! I think it's more trouble then worth. (Maybe Dave Shannon of Ca.knows)
