Plugged ERG Line? 700 1988

I am working with my son on what will be his first car, a '88 745. It seems to be in really good shape and he is excited about having it. This weekend we were doing some of the obvious things like cleaning the flame trap and hoses. What was odd was that the small diameter hose going from the flame trap assembly to the intake manifold appears to have been intentionally plugged up. There is the possibility it is just full of the stuff these get full of, but it looks like there is some wire or something similar which is actually blocking that hose. Before I disect it, can anyone think why a PO would have done this???

None. hose should be clear. It provides vacuum assist for turbos at idle. Also no flame trap in holder on turbos. I suspect throttle body orifices are also gunked up. See FAQ for removal and cleaning though you can remove hoses one by one and spray carb cleaner in after reaming out with small drill bit etc.

    good luck
