'92 940 T brake troubles

Ok, here are the symptoms: Occasionally, when braking the, car will pull one way or the other as I come to a stop. Not really noticeable until the car drops down below 10 mph. In addition, about 85% of the time when braking I get a pronounced shimmy/shake in the steering wheel, but not through the brake pedal itself. I had the car in the shop at the first of the year for new engine seals (something I'm not quite up to doing myself yet) and had them check out the brakes while I was in. They seemed to think they were ok, I am assuming they probably just looked at the pads and rotors, and saw that they weren't worn too badly. I am assuming the likely thing is a seized caliper pin?? Any thoughts??

Thanks,
Sam

Sounds like your radius arm ("cone") bushings might be shot. These are a common wear item, and, fortunately, pretty cheap & very easy to replace. There's info in the FAQ on how to identify this problem, and info on replacement.

Probably a good idea to take a look at the caliper pins, too...

If yours is like my 91 940 & 740 the front calipers are single acting (only one live piston) so to centre the caliper on the disc the caliper is mounted on sliding pins. When they seize (frequently if not checked) they can cause what you see. I now check mine Spring & Fall. After a while you can do a wheel in 15 minutes. Good luck.
